While the GC MxBeans have gradually improved the data available through them, the GC logs still have much more detailed information and if you need to analyze GC performance, you are still best off using the data from the GC logs
GC log analysis tools are therefore very useful. So it's big news that one of the two commercial tools that did this, Censum, has now had it's core open sourced and released (as Microsoft GCToolkit). See the news item below where Kirk (the author) gives an introduction to the toolkit
