It's unusual for even the bigger conferences to have enough Java performance and memory related talks to fill my newsletter (JavaOne used to but not in the past few years). So I didn't expect this newsletter to be P99 conf focused. But after scanning through the talks, it's ended up this way.

The talks aren't all Java specific, but this year even the non-Java talks have some great useful content for programmers of any language, so I've curated quite a few talks from P99. One lovely quote from Pekka Enberg's gem-filled talk is worth mentioning here: "Worst case virtual memory performance runs at disk speed"

• Good introduction to the basic low latency concepts of lock-free, wait-free, pipelining & cache coherency
• For low latency: parallelize, serve from memory not disk/network, use affinity and anti-affinity and requests and limits to ensure no pod resource conflicts, use cpu management policies (from k8s 1.26) to reduce context switching. Target isolating the resources to the pod that needs low latency
• For low latency: ensure locality, avoid cross-region routing; use http/2, cache, log asynchronously, store data on local disks
