Holly Cummins talk (see the talks below) had a useful point to think about when tuning. We often look for the bottleneck, and then tune the app to workaround, but Holly's point is that you should be looking at it differently, focus on efficiency. Efficiency is about doing less, getting rid of stuff that's not needed, which reduces resources usage. Faster, better and cheaper! Of course it's never simple and given lack of time we tend to focus on the bottlenecks, but maybe we should consider efficiency as part of technical debt, and set aside time to remove inefficiencies.

• Pointing out that CRaC let's you store data in-memory as Java objects, effectively doing ahead-of-time parsing
• This is not recent news, but a reader pointed at a useful technique included here, using HTTP headers to set prioritization/routing for higher efficiency so that the request body doesn't need parsing first (especially useful for requests that will be discarded)
